So I asked ChatGPT if it is going to take my job.
Will ChatGPT replace programmers?
When a friend of mine asked me if he should start learning about coding and getting into the industry given chatGPT write codes. I assured him right away: "Nah, no way an AI can replace humans".
However, the more I learn about the abilities of chatGPT and other AIs, the more I ask myself the same question:
"Will programmers lose their jobs because of chatGPT?"
So I took it personally and asked chatGPT itself.
It's true, isn't it? We (or just I) have only been focusing on what AI can do and we forgot about what it cannot do.
ChatGPT does not have the capability of understanding emotional or practical human needs. Therefore, it can't comprehend the business needs and provide solutions that effectively and practically meet humans' needs.
It gives information based on historical data (might be wrong) and It doesn't know when it gives incorrect information.
ChatGPT does not possess a deep understanding of the world. Its knowledge is limited to the information it was trained on, and it does not have a firsthand understanding of the world's characteristics and complexities.
While it will not completely replace jobs but I think it will partially do and we will be impacted if we don't adapt and upskill.
As technology will continue to evolve and become much more advanced, it's inevitable that some tasks may become fully automated, while others may only be partially automated, requiring human intervention. As a result, some developers' roles may be replaced by AI; however, at the same time, others will be created by the new technology.
Overall, new job opportunities are likely to arise that require human skills and expertise. Thus, it is important for developers to continually upskill and adapt to changes in the industry to stay relevant and in demand. This may include developing expertise in areas such as AI and automation, data science, and machine learning.
So basically, you and I are safe. But not for so long 😈 if we don't upgrade.
